Anthropologists, forensic artists, sculptors
Sub-millimeter scanners and 3D printers are allowing anthropologists to document skeletal remains in digital libraries and produce scaled 3D model replicas. Members will have opportunities to witness the newest technologies available to aid forensic artists/sculptors in measuring and developing faces with skeletal remains. Whether sculpting on a 3D exact replica of a skull or using a digital model with a 2D print for photo comparison studies, these new techniques will definitely spike your interest. There will also be opportunities to share existing techniques and develop new ones with colleagues from around the globe.
Training sessions can be developed to aid members in the use of specific software/hardware tools in order to aid in the quest for new knowledge and furthering the identification of skeletal remains.
A quarterly newsletter will be coming in 2007. This email newsletter will help IAFSM members stay on top of the latest developments in forensic and security metrology around the world, and will give members a venue to publish articles on current events, their usage of new technologies and their results.
An international users' group will be available for sharing techniques and ideas. IAFSM will enable users to gain direct access to major hardware and software developers to share their requirements and help influence future development.
